How to Deal with Anxiety Tension Headaches

Do you often experience pain in your head area like you have a very tight band around it? If this pain comes whenever you are having stress, then chances are you might be having an anxiety tension headache. We all experience headaches occasionally. Sometimes, it is not just a mere headache but it can actually be a symptom of an underlying illness.

You need to realize that you first need to learn how to confront your fear head-on in order to learn how to deal with your anxiety. The normal way to react when experiencing an unreal fear is to fight off the fear. You need to learn to resist this urge. You should try to look at your fear with curiosity instead of apprehension. Be observant of what your fear makes you do, and ultimately learn to accept it.The next step in learning how to deal with anxiety is training your mind to concentrate on pleasant things instead of focusing on whatever is making you feel anxious. It is a good idea to stop whatever you are doing and try to do something that will calm your mind and body as soon as you feel that anxiety has overcome you. For example, you can try taking a shower or going for a brief walk to help achieve your goal of distracting your mind.

A doctor can help effectively ease your anxiety by explaining what you need to do in order to overcome it. Antidepressants and other drugs may be recommended by a doctor as a treatment for anxiety because they have been proven to be helpful for people in the past. Be cautious when deciding to take medications for your anxiety as there are two major draw backs. The first major drawback is that the medications usually have painful and unpleasant side effects. Medications are also only a temporary relief and should not be depended on for long-term anxiety relief.

When you feel anxious, put your left hand over your stomach; inhale slowly and deeply; you should feel that your stomach expand or move out when you inhale and move in when you exhale. Eat enough protein (such as lean meat, fish, poultry, egg whites, and beans); eat more fruits and vegetables.

Aside from stress and anxiety, tension headaches can be triggered by lack of good posture. Hormonal changes, like during menstruation or pregnancy can also cause tension headaches. Skipping meals and lack of sleep is also not a good thing. Exercise or any physical activity is recommended. When people experience these changes feeling of anxiety usually comes from fear. This fear is the root of all problems. Secondary anxiety is the anxiety manufactured when we try to fight the ordinary anxieties that come into our lives. This kind of anxiety is secondary anxiety.Without secondary anxiety the little things in life just flow by us. Yes, there are times when we will feel nervous, but anxiety attacks never develop unless secondary anxiety is present. This means, the key to avoiding panic attack lies in accepting life's stresses.However, when we pay too much attention to our stress, we compound our worry and misery and this causes us to try harder to avoid stress. This, in turn, brings with it more secondary anxiety. As this happens, we are building a panic attack. The bottom line is, a panic attack will never get off the ground without secondary anxiety and whether or not secondary anxiety occurs is up to us.
