Why Interview Tips Required

By Dwyn Brown

Any candidate shortlisted for the interview feels stressful as the process itself is to pick up only a few, if not one, among a lot. Almost all the candidates are at an equitable stage, having crossed the previous hurdles, with regard to qualification and experience. Therefore, in order to display your prowess with ease and confidence, you require some interview tips to win over other candidates.

You should know more about the new organization, the production details or sales, the financial stability, their status vis--vis their competitors. The latest news items about long term policy notified or the notices exchanged between statutory authorities would be handy. This would facilitate you to respond with confidence to the panel while displaying your sincerity and seriousness of the interview.

The panel desires to know if you intend to change the job on your own volition or you were fired. If you were given the pink slip because of downsizing, amalgamation etc., you can honestly indicate the reason. Otherwise, you can mention that the job requirement is more suitable for the new organization where you could display your skills etc. However, you were fired for some reason, you should frame the answer diplomatically without suppressing the factual position.

It would not be surprising if some unexpected questions are asked about the area which might not be your specialized field. In your attempt to respond to such questions, you should skillfully aim at bringing back to the field of your core competence enabling the panel to pick up the next question from your answer. You will be at ease if you are able to swivel around your strength.

As far as the existing pay package is concerned, you should be honest in declaring the exact amount and able to substantiate the same, if required by the panel. In case you are not too sure about the anticipated salary, you can politely request them to indicate the range of the package and respond in case the same is suitable to you. Of course, consider the perks and other intangible benefits like job profile, growth opportunities, standing of the organization in the market etc, while answering.

Though honesty is appreciated at the interview board, you should avoid mentioning the negative points of your earlier boss or even organization. The same negative qualities of the boss could be rephrased to indicate positivity of throwing an opportunity to learn more about the subject or personality development. If you keep the above interview tips, you would be able to display the talent and emerge out with flying colors.
