Just because you follow a curriculum from another source, does not mean you must follow it to the letter. There are often going to be parts of a curriculum that do not suit your child's learning style or schedule. Be flexible with a curriculum and do not be afraid to drop those parts that are not fitting for your educational plan.

Before you even begin your child's homeschooling year, decide how many weeks you would like to accomplish the school year in. You can then break your courses up into weeks to set even tighter schedules. Do not forget to pencil in any vacation time that you will be taking so you do not forget to account for it.

Even homeschooling teachers and students want to feel included. For that reason, you should both consider joining a homeschooling support group. Your student(s) will get to talk to other kids who understand the lifestyle and challenges of homeschooling. Likewise, you can get input, advice and general support from other parents that have already struggled with and succeeded at homeschooling.

Know when it is time give in. If you are pushing and pushing your child, the result will be frustration. Look for alternatives. You can try using videos and even online tutors. Pushing your child too hard just may not work at all and might even end up frustrating the two of you completely.

As you are beginning your school year, start out slowly. You can introduce a single subject the first week, and then add another the week after. Slowly build up to the full daily schedule so you and your children do not become overwhelmed. There will be plenty of time to get through the workload throughout the school year.

Now that you have a better idea of many of the ways that you can approach homeschooling, you should be more confident about getting started. There are many ways to be successful in your homeschooling endeavors.
