The Definition Of Emotional Growth In Adults

By Paul Smith

Physically, you may feel your age, but emotionally you may still feel like a child. Emotional growth in adults can be stunted because of various reasons. A mature person is able to make decisions, come up with good ideas, they are able to make good conversation and they feel stable with other adults. They are comfortable in their relationships around them.

Someone who has not reached this maturity won't feel comfortable in any of their relationships. They will be struggling in different parts of their life. They may be battling to fit in at work. They will be suffering with various disorders, such as with depression and anxiety. This person is far from the healthy adult. They realize that there is something wrong.

You often feel trapped or stuck in your job or in your personal life. Many people are always trying to improve their life and they are able to cope with various challenges that come their way. However, someone who is not emotionally mature, will not be able to cope in the same way. They may become anxious or depressed when they have too much on their plate to cope with.

They may never learn from their mistakes, and often blame this on someone else. They can get angry out of frustration. This is what a child would do. This sudden rage often comes out of nowhere. This is why it is difficult to make decisions. Many people like this will become over emotional and develop other personality disorders.

It can difficult to have a relationship with someone like this. They may become attached to their partner. They may be looking for the wrong type of partner. Often they will look for someone who they know they will break up with. They are often afraid of rejection and they will make sure that this doesn't have to them.

This can carry on your entire life until you look for help. If you don't it can continue to bring you down. You will look for an escape, you will stop socializing and you will suffer from depression and anxiety. A good quality of life can't result from this. People who have the courage to seek help and solve their problems are those who will reap the rewards.

Once you deal with the trauma, you can learn to socialize, look at the personality disorders, learn to make decisions and improve your relationships. A lot of people feel that they are victims all of their lives as a result of the abuse that they have suffered. Of course, it is shocking. However, if this is your mindset then you are never going to be able to be able to move on in life.

Patients often think that they have been victimized. Of course, they have, but when they tell their stories and they continue with this, people will become bored. They can't continue to be a victim their entire life. People admire those who are brave with courage. A therapist will offer encouragement and motivation. However, at the end of the day, it is up to the individual.
