Five Ways to Concentrate and Get Back on Task

Each day, there are lots of duties which are calling your name, both at the office and in your personal life. With life being so busy it's simple to lose focus on the main picture.

Just how many times have you went to bed thinking what you really finished that day? Or have you ever felt like your day was somehow wasted?

To prevent these thoughts, you can try several various approaches to get yourself back on track. Instead of bemoaning your wasted time, resolve to regain your focus and get back on task.

Confucius Says...

There's a famous quotation about focus by the great philosopher Confucius: "If you chase two rabbits, you catch none. " True, there might be those who are able to multitask and do it relatively well; but more often than not, people who split their attention between two distinct tasks have a more challenging time finishing both tasks properly.

Here are 5 approaches to regain your own focus and get back on task:

1 . Eliminate the distractions. Get rid of the barriers that are causing you to avoid getting things done - it's that simple! Forget about checking email every five minutes; those emails will still be there when you complete your task. Create a list of disruptions and eliminate!

* Switch off the phone and let the voice mail take over.

* Close the blinds in your office.

* Switch off the background music when you find yourself singing more than working.

* Simply closing the door to your workplace can provide you with more privacy and much more focus.

2 . Prioritize your work. Rather than working on projects simultaneously, take one task at a time, concentrate on it, and worry about all the other projects later. Ultimately, you will get a lot more done and you will finish it faster. You will also be identified by the high quality that you offer when you're free of disruptions.

* Find a way to prioritize that works best for you. Choose either the task that has the earliest deadline or the one with the least components so you can complete it swiftly and get it out of the way. There are pros and cons to both systems so tackle it whichever way works for you.

3. Tell everyone to respect your time. There are many nice and respectful methods to ask people to back off. If you're seeing yourself in a time crunch and cannot seem to escape from others, think about letting them realize that you will need time to finish some crucial assignments. There are many various ways to do it - just make sure you do!

* Set times that you'll accept phone calls and even visitors. Tell them to contact you by email and then set a regular schedule to check your email.

* Set business hours during which people can count on you to return their calls or emails.

4. Set a few limitations with your internet access. The web is great but it can be a big time waster, especially if you work on a computer all day long. Regain your focus with some self-made guidelines.

*Initially, minimize all those windows you are not using. Stay away from Facebook, MySpace or Twitter, stop browsing on eBay, and leave messenger alone!

* Set up particular times every day to use these fun things and just focus on what you have to do. You will quickly achieve more!

5. Trust your abilities. This might seem like a very tiny thing when it comes to focusing and getting back on task, but believing that you can get everything done that you set out to do sets you in a constructive mindset and you'll be less preoccupied with stress and worry.

* Have confidence that you can complete each job with ease and have confidence in your ability to produce. If you will just have the self-confidence, you are sure to have the focus!
